Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After your comment has been approved your profile picture will be visible to the public together with your comment.

Media

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on this website, we also store whatever personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time with the exception of their username. Website administrators can also see and edit information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments will pass through an automated spam detection service and may be classified as spam by that service. Wordsbykim website owners do not see comments that the automatic service classifies as spam as these comments are automatically deleted by the spam detection service.

Wordsbykim only asks for your name and email address. You do not need to provide a real name or email address but, without an email address, Kim will not be able to respond to requests for assistance other than by posting the request, and a reply, on the Advice Page of this site. Visitors to this site do not need to provide any details at all if they do not wish to ask Kim for assistance or leave a message.

Additional information

How we protect your data.

All communication to, and from, the website is done via SSL layer encryption. Wordsbykim does not make any money from this site so we do not need to collect any extraneous data. Data collected is kept to a bare minimum. Passwords are encrypted securely and the website is secured by a professional data administrator.

What data breach procedures we have in place

Standard server based utilities are in place to protect from data breach. More detail cannot be given as it will only help those who wish to breach our site and access data.

What third parties we receive data from

Wordsbykim receives data from WordPress in the form of statistics collation and spam protection.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

Spam protection is the only automated decision making that occurs on the wordsbykim site. All other decisions, such as requests for removal, or the approval of comments are done by Kim.

Industry regulatory disclosure requirements

Wordsbykim has no disclosure requirements under Australian Law but if any such data breach is recognised, Kim will make a decision regarding the announcement at the appropriate time.
